Cat Sitting

Unlike dogs who are people-centric, cats are space identified and territorial in nature. That’s why we advocate for in-home care for kitties. Of course, they like their people, but unfamiliar surroundings, smells, litter box locations and routines can trigger anxiety, unusual litter-box behaviors, or worse.

As with any animal, we always begin with where your pet is at socially and psychologically. We don’t come in expecting cats to accept us right away. We take time to build trust and we’ll never force an interaction. Cat’s adopt us, not the other way around.

We’ll start with gentle movements, getting low to the ground to not intimidate. A slow blink is often returned signaling an okay to continue. Then an outstretched finger tip for a sniff. That’s often all it takes but some our feline friends play harder to get. But we wait them out patiently and some just prefer to maintain their distance, and that’s okay.

Walkies’ cat sitting appointments of course include feeding, fresh water, litter box cleaning, and if desired, playtime, pets and cuddles. Like any home-based service, we also offer complementary mail pickup, house plant watering and a general security sweep of your home, rotating lights, changing curtains and blinds to make the house look lived in and a quick check that all windows and doors are securely closed and locked.
